FitGear is a small startup based out of Tampa, FL that was created during a Startup Weekend hosted by the University of Tampa Entrepreneurship Center. FitGear is the brainchild of Omar El Batawi, a young and exciting entrepreneur here in the Tampa area.
As posted on the website, FitGear was created to ‘Ship high quality sporting goods to Egyptian athletes.’ As an Egyptian-American athlete himself, he saw a huge gap in the quantity and quality of brand-name sports apparel (most of them designed and made in the US and the UK) that was available in the markets in Egypt. He noticed that in order for Egyptians to get the latest styles and colors of the hottest brands, he needed to first charter a flight out stateside to purchase what he was looking for, or try to set up and organize a way for brands to ship indirectly to his home.
What FitGear does is provide a trade-route between Egypt and the Western World, making the purchases of quality, brand name fitness apparel much easier and more affordable than the typical methods.
